The AiM SOLO: feature packed, amazingly
priced!
With a clear, easy to read display
and very powerful Race Studio 2 analysis software, the SOLO is as
powerful (or more so) than many full-dash data systems of just a
few years ago...
-So, what is the AiM SOLO?:
Solo is an automatic lap timer and
data logging mini-computer that uses GPS technology.
-What is the AiM SOLO DL?:
Solo
DL is an
automatic lap timer and data logging mini-computer that uses GPS
technology as well as an Accelerometer. It has enhanced logging
capabilities because it can connect to almost an 1996 or later car
ECU to collect and log its data as well.
-What does it do for me?:
Solo locates its GPS position,
identifies the track from the internal list of the main world
tracks and starts automatically sampling lap times! It records this
and gives the driver feedback based on data it collects.
-What if the track is not in the database, or I want to
create my
own?:
Circuits, hill climbs, regularity, point to point
races, performance
tests. Solo can fit all situations
with a simple keyboard configuration. Track can be added by
driving the circuit or using computer software.
-And, what
else?:
Speed, accelerations, braking... all the details you need while
racing, a powerful data review immediately after and... no need for
a track engineer, no complicated sensors no expensive wirings. This
Mini computer is a great leap into becoming a better driver, and
optimizing car-setup...
At the smoking price of just $399 this tool is so much more than a
toy... its a must have for the driver who wants to improve, and do
so consistently at budget anyone can afford.
We think that this is the best value in the data acquisition
market period. For street and track enthusiasts, it
even gives the 'Vbox' a good run for the money at this price point
with its features.
The AiM SOLO is AiM's newest data component and specifically
designed as the most cost-effective, feature rich data acquisition
solution on the market. When creating this product, the goal
was to produce a capture and replay solution that every DE
enthusiast, driving students, aspiring racers, or even the
professional coach could use. All goals to capture this market
are met: affordable, compact, easy to install, and easy to
use. We predict that this will become the new industry
standard in affordable gear that the amature must-have.
More than just a lap timer, much more... The SOLO is a full data
logger that not only shows the user how fast they are each lap, but
also provides the quantitative measurements to show just how to
improve your line, consistency, focus and other crucial driving
skills that are much easier to improve with feedback from data
logging.
Some Specific features include:
- Easy Install - Using either the included
screw/velcro-on mounting bracket or the optional window suction
cup, the SOLO drops in your car in less than a minute. The
internal battery means no wires are required to get started - power
cord and CAN cable use is optional.
- Laptime Display - SOLO displays driver's best
lap, as well as either rolling lap time (running lap), static lap
(last completed lap), or Predictive Lap. Predictive Lap is the most
valuable tool for improving your driving and gives instantaneous
feedback as you are driving a lap on whether you are faster or
slower than your best lap. There is no other
substitute for this immediate feedback.
- Data Analysis - SOLO records data to be
downloaded and analyzed using AiM Race Studio 2 software, one of
the easier to use and powerful data software tools on the
market. More than laptimes, use Race Studio 2 to show exactly
where you can improve and pick up speed on the track. If the
Predictive Lap display is half of the value of a data system,
powerful and user-friendly analysis software is the other half, and
RS2 fits the description.
- Track Recognition - SOLO includes a list of the
world’s main track GPS coordinates. At power up, the internal
GPS in the SOLO provides a location and loads the configuration for
the track you are on.
- Performance Measures - SOLO can be used as a
measuring tool for your car's performance - a great way to evaluate
your most recent upgrade. Industry standard tests include 1/4
mile, 1/8 mile, and 0-60mph, including 60' times and trap
speed.
- GPS Antenna - An internal GPS antenna in the
SOLO provides precise location and track mapping capability and
speed outputs. Additionally, a start/finish line is set so
you don't have a trackside beacon to lose or forget at the
track.
Includes software, user manual, screw-on
mounting bracket (suction window mount purchased separately), USB
power adaptor and USB cable, 2m lighter socket power cable, AiM
decal and AiM racing guide. SOLO DL kits include either OBD
II port or RS232 CAN wire-in cable

More Info From AIM Sports:
High-speed GPS, internal accelerometers, expansive data logging
memory, USB download, a waterproof design, a thoughtful feature
set, and a retail price of $399 make for best motorsports lap timer
ever made. It's called Solo, and it's available now.
Predictive Lap Times- Arguably the best tool a driver can
have for getting faster—predictive lap times. Chisel down those lap
times and qualify better than you ever have before with the Solo's
predictive lap timing. A constantly updating real-time display of
your current lap pace. A time prediction resolved down to the
hundredth of a second - and incredibly accurate. Optionally you can
display a real-time +/- from your best lap time.
It's a Data Logger- The Solo records your lap times along
with speed, track position, lateral g-forces, linear g-forces, yaw
rate, heading, slope, satellite reception, and battery voltage.
Each channel recorded at a frequency of 10-times per second (10
Hz). All tests are stored with a time and date stamp for on-screen
review or PC download for further analysis. Download your Solo data
to the included full version of RaceStudio2, our professional data
analysis software.
Lap Data Review at Your Fingertips- Hit the Solo's memory
button when your session is over and up pops your best three lap
times, along with session data of duration and distance. Hit MEM
again and you get a full list of your lap times along with max
straight speed and minimum corner speed for each lap. A third data
review page shows a histogram view of your lap times where you can
identify patterns of driving or the tires coming in - or going
away.
Data Analysis- Plot your Solo data over time or distance, xy
plots, track position, create histograms and more. Overlay any
number of laps from the same test of different tests. Correlate
your data to track position.
Track Mapping & Driving Line Analysis- Every lap you
drive is mapped with great precision, which not only allows you to
correlate data to track position, but also overlay maps to analyze
driving lines. Know exactly where you are gaining or losing
time.
Split Times- One of the most useful tools for analyzing
driver performance and consistency is to break up the track into
several sections and analyze sector timing and standard deviation
within a test session. The Solo puts that powerful tool one click
away on your PC. The track is automatically split up into straights
and corners and a table provided with sector times for each and
every lap. It also strings together your "theoretical best" lap,
combining all your best sectors.
Performance Tests- 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile, and 0-60 MPH
performance test modes are built in to every Solo. Queue the Solo
up for a 1/4 mile pass and from a standing start mash the pedal and
keep it straight for 1320 feet - on a closed circuit or where
permissible by law of course. The Solo's smart looping memory
records a few seconds of staging, the pass, and about three seconds
of coast down. Immediately after the pass, the Solo display
provides you with a time slip, complete with your 60' time, 330',
1/8th mile split and speed, 1000', and your 1/4 mile ET with speed
at the finish line. A similar abbreviated time slip is displayed
for 1/8th mile tests.
The venerable 0-60 MPH test benchmark is just as easy to run, and
the on-screen review shows your 0-60 time, the distance traveled to
achieve 60 MPH, along with the 0-20 and 0-40 MPH splits and
respective distances.
No Beacon Needed- GPS lap timing means not having to place a
beacon trackside for lap times. It also means there’s no beacon to
forget. There’s twenty-four lap timing satellites orbiting the
earth - always on, and no batteries to replace.
Big Bold Display- The Solo displays your lap times in
numbers just under an inch in size, even aging eyes have no problem
seeing them.
4 Hour Battery- The Solo's internal lithium-ion battery will
keep the Solo running for about 4 hours with the backlight on.
Otherwise, a 12V connection to vehicle power keeps it charged and
running off the vehicles battery.
(*Note that the Solo is not NHRA or IHRA legal for event use.
The Solo provides real-time track position in both time and feet -
info that your not supposed to see and might get you in trouble at
a NHRA or IHRA event, or ejected at the very least.) **Specific
performance test views are being added to RaceStudio2 in the coming
months.
