Due to the weight of the intake manifold, heat and age, failing of
the S14s Intake Manifold Gasket (Insulator) is common.
The results are everything from an idle fluctuation when cold
starting or warm idle... to worse: running lean at wide open
throttle! This has caused engine damaging detonation and the need
for many rebuilds! Remember to take notice if your S14 starts to
have idle issues.
VAC Tech Tip:
If you are performing a repair that requires removal of the Intake
manifold, replace these gaskets if you don't know when they were
last done. We recommend replacing them every 100k miles or less if
your S14 sees fast use.
