The Ground Control Difference...
This is a excellent street use or sports and
track coilover kit to fit the BMW 5 series (e34) 88-97. Whither you
want to slam your car for looks, or keep up with the sports coupes
at the track, this is the suspension kit to get;
nothing rivals the quality and performance and versatility
of a Ground Control kit, all at very reasonable pricing!
After several years of use in racing applications, Ground
Control kits have been adapted for your dual purpose street or
track car. Most other spring and shock kits offer only one set ride
height or feel when installed - GC gives you options. With this kit
for your E34, you can adjust the personality of your ride to match
your own needs and wants of how your car should perform.
With quality components made in Europe and the USA, this will far
out perform and outlast many Asian-made systems of the same cost,
and is far superior to those that cost less.
Performance: Ground controls kits are an affordable
master of performance, BUT they can be ordered with spring rates to
suit your needs. Adjust your new ground control shocks and struts
to your desired feel and you can have a system that not only
handles like a guided-missile, but comfort is also exceptional
thanks to Koni's high quality dampers.
Stance & Ride Height Options: Whether you want a
tasteful mild drop, or a car that scrapes the pavement like a euro
low-rider; Ground Control does it all thanks to its high quality
components and user adjustability! While a drop of .5-1.5 inches is
within recommended height for performance with standard length
shocks, creative owners can push the limits of what's possible
should you be brave enough to go lower in the pursuit of the
ultimate mind bending look, or building a race car (Some people do
turn 5s into race cars!).
A) Standard Length Bolt on kit: Everything included with the
capability to go from .5-to-1.5" inches drop easily. A great direct
bolt on setup for most users and street enthusiast.
B) Short Stroke / Low Ride Height: For those that want to go
1"-2.5" lower for the look or performance.
Keep in mind that lower than 2 inches can cause excessive rear
camber, however an M5 can go a bit lower and keep alignment by
virtue of its adjustable subframe. You may also cut/modify your
non-M5 if you wish to go lover than 2" and maintain correct
camber. NOTE: We strongly recommend at least the "Sport ride"
or firmer if you wish to extremely lower or "slam" your car as a
ride that is 'too soft' will have issues bottoming out over bumps.
This is the setup for those who want a seriously low car "Slammed"
E34, or are building a track car. This Short Stroke setup
requires you to send your front spindles in for modification,
unlike other vehicles, this is not available in a DIY form. Cost
+$230.
The Ground Control system's unique design allows
for easy adjustment. Simply lift the corner(s) of the vehicle that
you wish to adjust and spin the adjustable spring seat up or down
to raise or lower the vehicle. Each E34 kit includes the following
quality GC parts:
Springs: All of our ride
height adjustable kits now exclusively feature Ground Control
springs, manufactured by Eibach USA. A broad selection of spring
rates are available. All Eibach / GC springs offer a lifetime
warranty against spring rate change and sagging. Ground Control
works very hard with Eibach USA to make these springs to the
standards that you demand. Lifetime guarantee on everything, not
just springs. No excuses about "racing" or "special". If anything
fails, while being correctly installed, it will be taken care of,
period.
Adjusters:
All adjusters consist of a threaded sleeve and adjustable spring
seat. And are made using high strength 6061-T6 aluminum; anodized
for greater durability and appearance. The threads on the adjusters
are square cut which locks the adjustable spring seat in place
under load. For further precaution, a setscrew in the adjustable
spring seat can be used to secure adjustment. Upper spring perches
are used to insulate the spring.
Rear upper shock
mounts: Billet aluminum rear upper mounts
eliminate the failure prone stock pieces. On the e34 M5, they
also eliminate the ‘’nivomat’’ suspension, to allow an adjustable
shock. Bumps stops are provided and assembled. Urethane upper
spring pads are used to insulate the spring.
Bump Stops: This kit
includes four Ground Control bumpstops, designed and manufactured
for GC, and matched to your springs.
Camber Plates: HYBRID Camber
/ Caster Plates A special version of our race plates, toned down
for dual-purpose cars. Uses a proprietary upper perch with a rubber
insulator. More camber adjustment than stock, caster adjustment,
aircraft bearings, engraved with calibrated degrees. Every
component is anodized or plated, including fasteners. Adds extra
travel to avoid excessive bottoming out, this is a very well
engineered product. .
Camber and caster are separately adjustable by sliding the mounts,
without removing any components from the car.
The Ground Control camber plates feature two sets of bearings, a
proprietary bearing, made to our specs by Aurora in the USA, which
allows for articulation of the shock shaft. This spherical bearing
is very understressed, as the GC design does NOT
support the weight of the car on the spherical bearing. Instead,
the weight of the car is supported by a completely separate
articulating needle bearing, which is also manufactured for Ground
Control in the USA.
(the camber plates were formerly an option, now they are
standard equipment at a lower price)
The shocks and struts: in this kit are not the standard
off-the-shelf Koni struts for the e34. The front struts are
adjustable from the top, and with special valving designed by
Ground Control. Available as bolt on or in the send-in shortened
versions for going low. The rear shocks have a special slightly
more aggressive, but still streetable damping like the front
struts.
Warrantee: We can only have a guarantee like this because
every single part of the Ground Control Street coil-over kit is
made by us or someone we trust. All parts are made in the USA or
Europe of high quality materials. If you have any problems, and
the components are verified to be installed correctly, GC
will take care of the item. This does not cover excessive lowering
scenarios where shocks have run out of travel.
Disclaimer: Extremely lowered cars (more than 2") will be
much more likely to damage suspension and oil pans, we are not
responsible if you chose to do this and this is not covered under
any warranty.
