VAC Tech Tip:
From customers who are new to the S54, we often get asked; "why
eliminate the VANOS?". As is common with variable cam timing
engines of all types; once you have fitted larger performance or
track cams, the VANOS does not offer the low RPM gains it does with
mild OE cams. Even with stock cam, in racing the engine is operated
from mostly 4000-8000 RPMs, where VANOS does not offer gains over a
locked setting. You no longer need to map and re-map for hours on
the dyno with different VANOS positions.
