The Rear Strong-Strut Brace provides significant bracing and
reinforcement to the rear section of the BMW E30. A rare find, no
one else makes this part!
This brace bolts to the chassis by utilizing the rear subframe
mounting brackets. This not only reinforces the chassis itself but
also helps maintain proper toe angles of the rear wheels. The rear
end "wiggling" is caused by changing toe angles when cornering or
driving over uneven surfaces. Strong-Strut is the originator of the
design and the only manufacturer.
The Rear Strong-Strut Brace is bolted
below the sub frame rear axle carrier. Everything above the OEM
mounting brackets of the sub frame is mounted in rubber
anti-vibration mounts and is designed to move around. Therefore,
the rear axle carrier, although massive in appearance, provides
no stiffing element to the body/chassis. Because the rear
Strong-Strut is bolted below, and directly to the mounting
brackets, which are in turn solidly bolted to the body, the rear
Strong-Strut serves as a rigid transverse reinforcing member. This
ties both sides of the body/chassis together just forward of the
rear wheels and resists the torquing/twisting forces of the rear
body structure when subjected to aggressive cornering or uneven
roadway.
By eliminating or reducing body flex; understeer is lessened,
overseer is more controllable, the rear of the car follows the
front more crisply when turning into corners, and the car feels
more stable over uneven pavement.
WARNING! IMPORTANT INFORMATION (ground clearance
disclaimer): Please be advised that the addition of a
Rear Strong-Strut Brace may reduce ground clearance on your
3-series (e30). Since the various 3-series (e30) models have
some differences, and there are a lot of aftermarket suspensions
and wheel/tire options out there, Strong-Strut can't be more
specific than this. If ground clearance is an issue with any
potential customer, Strong-Strut suggests that you do-not purchase
the Rear Strong-Strut Brace. If you do install one, Strong-Strut
suggests that you measure the distance from the bottom of the strut
to the ground and keep the measurement in memory. Avoid straddling
any road objects that exceed this dimension since striking a solid
object may cause damage to the vehicle. The Rear Strong-Strut Brace
is a very robust structure, 2 inches by 1/2 inch solid 6061, T-6
treated alloy. It's all one solid piece and mounts under the car
near the front of the rear wheels and is a very simple
installation. Although not tested for crash worthiness, it should
be able to withstand a fairly solid hit. On the plus side, it’s
location and strength could prevent damage from straddled objects,
to the differential.
