What's a Tranny Mount?
A tranny mount (abbreviation of transmission mount), is a component (sold here in complete pairs) which isolates the engine & transmission motion and vibration from the driveline to the chassis.

Vibration/Motion Absorber
Stock, the Tranny Mount's first and foremost duty is to isolate vibration from the interior cabin. With a solid mount, like our VAC Race Aluminum mounts, your interior cabin noise may increase to the point where it would be intrusive in a street situation.
These are great for a real race car, but not one that drives on normal roads.

Deflection Fighter
The tranny mount is also used to combat transmission "movement" during driving (AND THIS IS HUGE for your BMW).
The OEM BMW tranny mounts are one of those known weaknesses across the brand. They are know to cause everything from miss shifts & over revs, to physical chassis damage.
Since the transmission is connected to the back of the engine, it is the engine which is doing the twisting when one accelerates or decelerates (engine braking).
The engine has it's own mounts (motor mounts) as well.

In a street situation, some movement is expected, however too much movement (like your aged OE mounts) will cause the transmission to become misaligned with the chassis of the car, or simply break apart all together. This is when failures and miss-shifts can occur, big bad- expensive news.

  The ideal tranny mount will both absorb vibration as the factory intended as well as minimize the amount of transmission movement during spirited driving. By firming up the tranny mounts, UUC's Tranny Mounts offer gear shifts that are more precise than when you car was new, and the chance for things to go wrong when your driving hard will be greatly lessened.

  Red urethane bolt-through transmission mount bushings are the strongest choice that still absorbs vibration and a favorite of VAC customers. Highly recommended for all 6 cylinder models, a bit more vibration is transmitted on V8 models.
  A single bolt through the entire piece eliminates the possibility of bushing material failure even under abusive conditions, and that's why this is our mount of choice. Offers nearly the same drive train motion control as a solid delrin or aluminum mount, but with satisfactory vibration isolation to reduce vibratory stress on mechanical components and keep cabin occupants comfortable. Cabin vibrations are significantly lower than delrin/aluminum solid mounts, but is still noticeable vs OE rubber. (Plus: Transmission mount enforcer cups not required with these pieces).

  VAC tech note: upgraded trans mounts are best used with matching UUC urethane engine mounts or Solid mounts for best & most reliable results.
