This spacer is intended for use with all M50 family camshafts that
are larger than the 264/256 set.
This includes the Schrick 276/270, Sunbelt/ Bimmerworld and VAC
286/272* IP Cam sets. For these high lift cams, this spacer reduces
the travel of the VANOS mechanism, allowing these camshafts to be
used with the standard valve reliefs found in OEM spec pistons.
Keep in mind, those fitted with our CP pistons can use a standard
full-travel VANOS with all of those cams as we have larger valve
reliefs in our pistons.
VAC Tech Tips: it is highly
recommended that you have this small shim installed by a machinist
or technician who has experience with the VANOS internals and is
competent with camshaft timing.
Limiting travel assures reliability and provides the safety margin
necessary when the VANOS is at full advance. This modification is
NOT required or beneficial when using OEM or Schrick camshafts.
