Follow BMW procedures for the complete removal of the VANOS assembly. It is important to note that the following VANOS components will be retained (see composite picture below):
(4) Internally splined flange
(4) Single row chain sprocket
(2) Double row chain sprocket
(2) Spacer ring
***For initial settings, we recommend using BMW tools to hold cams in place***
1) Install the two, single row, rear sprockets and chain onto the cams and around the tensioner.
2) Slide the OEM splined flanges into place.
3) On the exhaust side, slip the OEM spacer ring onto the VAC hub, slip onto the camshaft and loosely install the 20mm bolts around the perimeter and the 30mm bolts to the camshaft.
4) On the intake side, slip the OEM double row sprocket onto the VAC hub. Fish the chain around, slip onto the camshaft, and install hardware.
5) Repeat for 2nd bank of cylinders.
6) Proceed with cam timing according to the camshaft manufacturer. We recommend removing and cleaning bolts, apply loctite, and torque to factory specs.
7) Remove OEM oil feed check valves from the front covers. After installation of covers (factory specs), install the OE oil plugs.
8) Lastly, install VAC VANOS elimination plates using OEM hardware.
