Why Build a 3.2L B58?

The B58 already responds exceptionally well to increased boost, fueling and turbo upgrades. Increasing displacement to 3.2 liters adds another tool to the engine builder's arsenal.

The additional displacement can increase torque and airflow potential while allowing the complete engine combination to be designed around the desired turbocharger, fuel, boost level and RPM range.

This isn't simply a piston-and-rod upgrade. The ItalianRP 3.2L package replaces the factory rotating assembly with a purpose-built stroker combination centered around a billet steel crankshaft.

This complete rotating assembly increases the factory S58's 90mm stroke to 100.6mm and, when combined with an 85mm bore, increases displacement from 3.0L to approximately 3.42L.

At the center of the package is a lightweight 4340 billet steel stroker crankshaft paired with 4340 MOAR I-Beam connecting rods rated by the manufacturer for 1,800+ horsepower. The rods use premium ARP Custom Age 625+ fasteners.

Custom CP forged aluminum pistons complete the combination and can be configured for the required bore and compression ratio. Upgraded 9310-series wrist pins are included standard along with a complete performance ring package.

Increasing displacement gives an S63 engine builder another way to increase torque and power without relying solely on additional boost. Depending on the selected bore, this package increases displacement to:

89mm → 4.7L
90mm → 4.8L
91mm → 4.9L
92mm → 5.0L

Final bore size, block preparation, cylinder sleeves, piston-to-wall clearance, compression ratio and complete engine specification should be determined as part of the engine build.

Cylinder Sleeves

Cylinder sleeves are not included.

The larger-bore configurations require proper block preparation and should be treated as part of a complete S63 engine program rather than a simple drop-in rotating assembly.

High-output BMW engines are unforgiving when tolerances slip--and few failures are as destructive as a crank bolt backing out. The VAC Motorsports Crank Bolt Lock is designed to add a critical mechanical safeguard to the front of your engine, reducing the risk of crank bolt loosening under high load, aggressive driving, or track use.

Rather than relying solely on friction or torque retention, this system mechanically secures the crank bolt in place, helping maintain proper clamping force at the crank hub. The result is improved reliability during hard launches, repeated high-RPM operation, and extended performance use--whether on the street or at the track.

While no bolt-lock solution can fully prevent crank hub rotation on its own, securing the crank bolt significantly reduces one of the primary contributors to hub slip. For maximum protection, VAC Motorsports strongly recommends pairing this crank bolt lock with a pinned or upgraded crank hub solution.

Designed With Serviceability in Mind

Unlike many lock-style solutions that complicate routine engine work, this design incorporates a machined 32mm hex, allowing the engine to be rotated by hand without removing the lock. That means valve work, timing checks, or service procedures can be performed cleanly and efficiently--without added disassembly.

To further improve consistency and ease of installation, the system uses a single precision steel locking washer rather than multiple small washers. This ensures uniform load distribution across the hub face and simplifies installation while maintaining secure retention.

The VAC 4-Pin Crank Hub is CNC-machined with extreme precision to prevent the valve timing and oil pump chains from spinning independently. Its 4-pin design locks the hub to the crank nose, ensuring the assembly stays accurate under high stress and high RPM. By combining the crank hub and timing sprocket into a single billet unit, VAC reduced the stock 3-piece assembly to 2 pieces, improving rigidity and reliability.

Failed crank hubs have been a common ailment of the N54 family for many years, leading to crankshaft spin, causing skipped timing and potentially catastrophic engine damage.

The VAC Motorsports 4 Pin Crank Hub is more exact than OEM due to precise engineering and careful CNC machining. The 4 pin design prevents the valve timing and oil pump chains from spinning independently, and mechanically securing the crank hub to the crank nose. Doing so keeps the entire assembly accurate and secure.

Via careful engineering and design, VAC was able to minimize the total assembly from three pieces to two by combining the hub and timing sprocket into a single machined unit. So long as the bolt is properly tightened to the crank, the timing sprocket will always be in sync with the crank.
