Oil pressure: Don't trust your dash light!
The AEM Digital 0-100PSI Oil Pressure Gauge allows you to
monitor pressure to 100PSI on an easy to read gauge.
Aside from air/fuel, oil pressure is one of the most critical things to know in
an engine. At high RPM, lower than acceptable oil pressures won’t trip the low
oil pressure light on the dash, resulting in damage to bearings – or worse!
Now you can know if your pressure has started to drop
before real damage can occur. The needle style gauge is easy to read at a glance
and also makes it easy to see when oil pressure changes out of the corner of
your eye.
- Comes with white and black faceplates and silver and black
bezels
- Analog display ranges from 0-100PSI in 2 PSI increments
- 0-5v output for engine management/data logging
- Standard 52mm (2 1/16”) size for easy installation
- 100 PSIg brass sensor included
Gauge Tips:
The top three gauges for a BMW are Water Temp, Oil Temp and Oil
Pressure.
Some BMWs have a Temp Gauge; while Oil pressure is usually left to an
“idiot light” on the dash that warns when oil pressure drops below a
certain threshold, but one that at high rpm can still allow damage to
the bearings, or much worse.
We have seen slight over-revs result in a stretched rod bolt that
allowed the bearing to rotate, and this dropped the oil pressure by a
few PSI the following lap. That difference did not set off anything
other than some curiosity in the driver as to why the car was making
10PSI less oil pressure than the previous laps, causing him to pull in
and thus save the motor from windowing the block. Enough said on an
expensive BMW motor.
