This kit includes 5/16" steel check balls, which are installed into the threaded crankshaft holes before the studs. These check balls act as positive depth stops, limiting how far the studs can thread into the crankshaft.
By controlling stud depth, the check balls:

Recommended Installation
Install the check balls into the crankshaft threads prior to installing the studs. Follow ARP lubrication guidelines and torque the nuts to 112 ft-lbs per ARP specifications. Proper check ball placement is critical to achieving correct stud depth and clamp load.
