NTR R3: The Pinnacle of Nitrons most Dynamic Race Suspension
Systems.
Most people are aware that suspension is essential for high
performance cars, and many have a vague idea of how most of it works but very
few understand the finer details and understand how to get the best out of their
car through correct setup. Unless you’re a racing driver with many hours
experience, suspension can seem like a bit of a dark art. Multiway systems more
so; with seemingly endless configurations and permutations 2and 3 way systems
seem out of reach for all but the most hardcore.
After several years of working to improve the handling of many
race cars and bikes, designing and producing every conceivable suspension
component, Nitron Racing Systems was officially established in 1998 with the
primary objective of producing the very finest racing shocks and backing them
with unrivaled performance for the racer. Since then, Nitron’s worldwide success has spanned over a decade of prestigious race wins
and lap records on both two and four wheels using the revered NTR series of
shock absorbers.
Today, with direct motorsport involvement and a committed
development program, every Nitron customer experiences cutting edge performance
and design, proven on the world’s most demanding circuit and the latest
evolution of technology in the NTR line. Here, Nitron offers its most
prestigious and capable system ever conceived: The R3.
Always focusing on delivering serious performance and not compromising on design
and build quality, both internally and externally- Nitron is the solution
the most serious BMW racer needs to best the competition!
NTR R3 Complete Coilover Package:
We like different cars. We modify our cars to be individual. We each have
our own driving style – and at the highest professional levels, cars are
tuned with feedback from the driver and to have the edge over the
competition by having adjustments that can "add" traction over less than
perfect surfaces and on tracks that are challenging.
You are going to need the ability to make precise
adjustments to have the edge. The
R3 damper as Nitron's top of the line damper make no concessions,
its for the pro or aspiring pro racer that looks for independent
adjustment of bump and rebound, and even go one step further by
offering both high and low speed bump control.
Low speed bump relates to roll, dive, squat and translates into the ‘feel’
that the driver gets when putting the car though its paces on track. If a
car is struggling to put its power down and gain traction, softening the low
speed bump will make the suspension more compliant, allowing the car to then
deploy power more effectively while still offering resistant to roll. High
speed bump control is about track use with a varying surface;
thus allowing you to tune the suspension so that the car travels over curbs and
rumble strips with reduced disruption to the chassis, allowing you to
"widen" the track and follow an ideal racing line. If you face races in the rain or
over a loose surface, the R3 is your ally in making the car feel planted yet
sharp on these often treacherous and challenging scenarios.
More user friendly adjustment ultimately means the most dynamic performance for a given
situation, giving these three-way adjustable dampers the most tunable
performance to
the drivers exacting preference.
That leads up to the type of adjustment and the range of the Nitron damper:
Beware of just how much adjustment some after market damper kits offer –
many kits in this price range state anything up to 40 clicks of adjustment!
However they are usually not linear and often only have 5-10 clicks that
actually make difference to the damping curve. Nitron shocks arrive
(preset, may we add) with around 26 totally linear clicks. For most
customers this means a simple initial setup process to find their individual
‘sweet spot’ and a ‘less 2 clicks’ for a wet set setup.
Remote reservoirs
offer two very distinct advantages for serious performance automobiles:
Lower operating temps and consistency over a long period of time.
Consistency wins races and Nitrons generous amounts of oil and gas allow
fade-free performance over any surface. Think of this is the same way a big
brake kit offers extended performance by its additional capabilities to turn
the cars velocity into brake heat, a very similar situation to the oil in
the damper.
Also, remote reservoirs allow the lower valve to be located externally of
the dampers stroke, that would normally be at the bottom most portion of a
shock. This is allowing for tremendous amounts of travel and accurate
valuing- imagine the chassis attitude during braking over bumps, rumble
strips, track off or elevation change scenarios: having additional bump
(compression) travel is a very handy thing indeed!
While a race suspensions job is to help keep the car in its most ideal
state, with as much contact patch maintained to the road surface, the "race" moniker
often fools the customer: Race suspension must allow for irregularities to
be absorbed and their effect on the chassis quelled as quickly as possible.
Perhaps then, the most impressive thing about the R3 Nitron shocks is that
they are so capable, that even with 'race valving' and race spring rates
over 1100lbs, our E92 is daily driven though the broken roads of urban
Philadelphia with an unimaginable level of comfort, and could be used
without issue on a street car (rear shock mount reinforcement is
recommended in some instances).
Over the challenging surfaces and high speeds of the Nordschleife, which even professionals fear, the R3s job is to keep total
composure of the chassis at life threatening speeds. Not only is it suited
to this daunting task, but the R3 coilover system is the VLN record holder
on the 'Ring with an N/A E92 M3.
We are proud to say
that Nitron is equipped on many record holding BMWs and other vehicles
around the world and has an unrivaled success rate on the E36 and E46 chassis, with
