The new Cool Down Lap Light [ CDLL ] has been developed for Time Attack by motorsport industry specialists Cartek Automotive as a spec item to further enhance the driver awareness on track of cars which are not attacking the circuit on that particular lap and are keeping out of the way of others on hot laps during competition.

The light has been specifically manufactured for Time Attack by Cartek from their existing MSA rain light variant which has unique features for use only in Time Attack where we have specific competition requirements compared to other motorsport formulas. Its use forms part of the 2015 official sporting regulations.

The light is to be installed on the rear centre line of the car so it is visible to cars following behind and is additionally plumbed in to the cars existing headlamp wiring system. When the cars headlamps are off, the light will emit a special high intensity sequence of flashes to denote that the car is not on a flying lap [ TA cars are required to put on headlamps to signal to others when they are on a hot lap ]. When the car is on a hot lap and the headlamps are switched on, the CDDL switches off completely to indicate to others that the car is no longer on a cool lap and is now attacking the circuit.

There is also an additional switch that can over ride the function for use in darkness or in wet conditions [ where headlamps must be switched on regardless of whether a car is attacking or not ] so that headlamps can be put on and the light can still flash as desired.

The light comes as a full kit including the special switch and fitting instructions and is exclusively available from the Time Attack shop here.

The light is a Championship spec item for the following reasons:

Specific high intensity flashing sequence only seen in Time Attack to ensure uniform and unmistakable identity of all cars not running at full pace for approaching cars
Specific wiring of the light to allow for interruption by headlamp circuit
MSA/FIA approved and sealed all weather unit
Spec switch to over ride the system in wet/darkness conditions
The light comes for use in a horizontal LED layout and has two mounting studs in the rears of the casing for easy fitment – additional lengths of wiring and or connectors may be required and are not included in the kit. Wiring instructions are included.

CARTEK has been producing electronic safety equipment for the motorsport industry for over 10 years and were the first company to produce a rain light to the 2008 FiA specification in accordance with Technical List No: 19.

Tested by BSi and homologated by the FiA in 2010 this light meets all requirements including minimum size, light intensity, viewing angle, heat resistance and prolonged use reliability. The design has also been made robust to withstand the harsh environment of the race car whilst maintaining a small size and low weight.

This "Afterburner" version features two selectable modes:

Brake Light On/Off
Flashing On/Off (4Hz)

Typical configuration is 12v power applied to the red wire (flashing) either from the headlamp circuit or a toggle switch, and power applied to the gray wire (steady) from the brake light switch. This configuration can be reversed if desired.

Introduction

The Wireless Control System from CARTEK is the quickest and easiest way to install pushbutton controls to a detachable racing steering wheel. The system has 8 pushbutton switches which are wirelessly linked to 8 relays within the Relay Control Unit. These relays are microprocessor controlled and individually configurable to provide a choice of functions including momentary, latching and flashing modes for uses such as: PTT radio, pit lane limiter, dash menus, lights, indicators, etc.

The complete system includes a universal fitting steering wheel panel, incorporating 8 sealed pushbutton switches and infra red transmitter module, an infra red receiver and a relay control unit.

Product Details

Cartek uses Infrared to communicate between the Steering Wheel and Control System. By using this technology the wireless communication is completely protected from outside signals such as radio waves and EMF unlike other systems on the market. The system also allows the wireless link to be full 360 degrees.

The infrared Transmitter module is mounted to rear of the Steering Wheel Pushbutton Panel and is battery powered. The Transmitter only consumes electrical power when a pushbutton is pressed and therefore does not need to be turned off when not in use.

When a pushbutton is pressed an LED on Transmitter will show the status of the internal battery. If the LED shows Green then the battery is in good condition, if the LED shows Red then the battery needs to be replaced.

This highly efficient power consumption yields an average of 26280 hours of battery life!

How It Works

Channel Mode Configuration

Each channel can be individually configured to perform any 1 of 5 different functions:

Mode 1: Momentary action
Mode 2: Latching (without memory)
Mode 3: Latching (with memory)
Mode 4: Flashing (slow speed, minimum 5 seconds)
Mode 5: Flashing (fast speed, minimum 3 flashes)
Mode 6: Flashing (slow speed, latching)

It is also possible to alter which pushbutton is allocated to which channel. Full reset function is also available.

Customize Your Own

The Wireless Control System can be mounted to most racing and aftermarket steering wheels. It now comes a multi coloured vinyl pack and UV Fluorescent vinyl pack (glow in dark under UV light) allowing full customisation of the steering wheel.

INTRODUCTION
Many aftermarket car accessories such as Gear Shift Lights, Tachometers or Digital Gear Displays require connection to electrical signals which are often not available on modern cars. The CAN-Bus Signal Converter from CARTEK simply plugs into the OBD (On Board Diagnostic) socket found on most modern cars and provides four useful signals by extracting and converting engine data from the car‘s CAN-Bus network.

INSTALLATION
Locate the car‘s OBD2 socket which will be within 60cm (2ft) of the steering wheel. Insert the CAN-Bus Signal Converter then start the engine. If this is the first time the CAN-Bus Signal Converter has been installed then it may take a short while for it to interrogate the car‘s CAN-Bus network and synchronize to the correct protocol. This will be indicated by a Red LED.
Once the correct protocol has been determined then engine data will be extracted from the CAN-Bus network and converted into output signals. This will be indicated by a flashing Green LED.

OUTPUT SIGNALS

RPM (Blue wire)
This is a 12v square wave signal where the frequency increases with engine speed. The signal outputs 2 pulses per crankshaft revolution

SPEED (Green wire)
This is a 12v square wave signal where the frequency increases with road speed. The output frequency is approximately 2500 pulses per kilometer (1570 pulses per mile).

ENGINE RUNNING (Grey wire)
This signal remains high (+12v) when the engine is stationary and is driven low (0v) when engine speed exceeds 350RPM.

VEHICLE TRAVELING (Yellow wire)
This signal remains high (+12v) when the car is stationary and is driven low (0v) when road speed exceeds 9 Km/h (6mph).
