Packages just for your SMG M3!
SMG equipped E46 M3s have special needs to ensure optimal performance. The SMG computer is pre-programmed with all shifting procedures based on set values (the mass of the original equipment clutch + flywheel assembly).
Here at VAC, we have all manner of special projects built on a regular basis. We spent a great deal of time to find a solution specific to the SMG. We offer very specific packages that are a defined weight and meet a performance requirement for just about every owner. These recommendations work as a package to balance performance / lifespan / and drivability, and work with factory and performance ECU tunes, Superchargers, Turbos and most any power level from stock to over 1000 HP. The ClutchMaster's "Power Plus" pressure plate uses a high leverage design with a ductile iron casting to significantly increase plate load and durability while keeping excessive clutch hydraulic pressure to the bare minimum possible. This design reduces heavy pedal pressure that plagues a lot of performance clutches and can stress the SMG hydraulics.
The HPF Clutch offers a similar pressure plate, and extremely high load carrying feramic discs material, ideal for force induction cars.
Both features a reinforced strap design and heavy duty rivets throughout for increased longevity and strength during aggressive use; areas that typical fail in the stock and even other "performance" pressure plates during heavy use.
These clutch systems have been tested to work well with our Grand Am spec Lightweight Steel Alloy Flywheel. Robust, race proven, and street friendly; this combination works extremely well with SMG cars to improve performance, and power handling.

Steel Alloy + HD Organic Disc- 40% higher holding capacity over OEM works as an excellent stock replacement and for bolt-on mods and N/A tuned cars, HPDEs. Stock feel during engagement and slip, and doesn't add any stress to the SMG hydraulics. Top rated for daily drivers and as OE replacement. |
Steel Flywheel + Clutchmasters FX200 |
Steel Alloy + Kevlar Disc- A typical 60-80% higher power capacity than OE. Surprisingly good drivability and long life. Appropriate for intermittent track, as well as heavier mods on street cars. MUST be broken in very gently for 600 miles! (Choose based on your needs: the downside to this clutch is it must be broken in gently. An improper break in of a Kevlar clutch will great reduce longevity and clutch hold dramatically) |
Steel Flywheel + ClutchMasters FX400/6 |
Steel Alloy + Ceramic Disc- Very streetable, nearly identical to stock-drivability and capable of up to 700WHP. Can be used on any supercharged / turbocharged M3 up to the rated power. Clutch life is slightly reduced for ultimate drivability, despite huge power handling capability. |

Steel Alloy + Ceramic Disc- Provides a very crisp shift. Also, said to handle upwards of 1000rwhp. Has been tested with SMG equipped vehicles. Clutch life is slightly reduced for ultimate drivability, despite huge power handling capability. |
