Many BMW owners are faced with VANOS issues in their high
mileage engines. These problems can make your smooth running
BMW sound like a noisy diesel and rob you of low and mid RPM torque
so crucial for good performance.
So What is VANOS?
VANOS (Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung) is a variable
valve timing of the valves by moving the position of the
camshafts in relation to the drive gear. Developed by BMW in close
collaboration with Continental Teves.
What do you offer?
For years we have offered professional grade VANOS repair and
modification for daily-driver local customers and professional race
teams, but now our services are also available to you, for repair
and upgrades to your VANOS assembly.
Our VANOS units are repaired and upgraded to our high standards
of quality (The best in the industry). With years in the BMW repair
business and 40+ in high performance machine shop & racing
world, you are assured our VANOS units are made to the tightest
tolerances and with the finest components available.
What don't you offer?
What we don't do is offer services you don't need. These units are
suitable for 100% stock, or pure race vehicles. There is nothing
they can't do! We have not found REM finishing the gears to offer
improved performance but instead we simply build our units to our
own set of parameters to insure perfect operation.
What makes your repaired VANOS units the
In our in-house state of the art machine shop facility, the same
where our world class engines are built; each unit is cleaned,
fully checked, and refreshed using the best long-life components
available, we don't settle for the equivalent brands that quickly
deteriorate, but high quality Viton o-rings and race-tested long
life seals throughout the assembly.
Our units are repaired on computer controlled machine equipment
not available to 'home-brew' companies that are rare even in many
other professional machine shops.
Internal oil flow and pressure is optimized for durability and
quiet operation. We also modify the thrust-washers on the cam
assembly and utilize the late style dual spring/hydraulic tensioner
for improved functionality and at no extra charge.
Our units surpass OEM and other repairers units by far and
outlast them as well, and the efficiency of our machine process
allows us to offer them all for a better price!
VAC repaired VANOS units are 100% rebuilt and checked, not just an
in and out repair of the individual failed component like many
What Options should I select?
Repaired: for customers with aging or
malfunctioning VANOS units. These are to be used along with factory
BMW's OE cams, VAC Sport cams, or Schrick's 264/256 Sport cam
Modified: These units are intended for
use with Sunbelt/ Bimmerworld / VAC Track & Race Cam sets. For
these high lift cams, this limits the travel of the VANOS
mechanism, allowing these camshafts to be used with OEM
Those fitted with our CP pistons can use Repaired as we have larger
valve reliefs in our pistons.
Turn around time
VAC Tech Note: Our VANOS elimination kit is for a race
vehicle that does not see low RPM use. If you have a full race
vehicle, this is a good choice but if you drive your BMW on the
street; we highly recommend keeping your VANOS system as it
provides a significant improvement in low RPM torque.
For the Bimmerworld /Sunbelt Track Cams and our VAC Track Cams, it
is highly recommended that you select the RACE CAM option when
ordering if your installing these into an engine with standard size

limiting travel to assure reliability and provides the safety
margin necessary when the VANOS is at full advance. This
